Optical design and clinical usability

This ophthalmoscope comprises an objective lens, a relay lens and an eyepiece to support clear retinal viewing. Because retinal observation is performed through the small aperture of the pupil, an illuminating optical system is required to deliver adequate, consistent light. For effective routine examinations, the ophthalmoscope is designed to secure a sufficient FOV (field of view) so a wide retinal area can be assessed during screening and follow-up.

To accommodate variations between patients’ eyes, the instrument includes a focus mechanism. As human eyes differ slightly from each other, focus compensation is commonly achieved by moving the objective lens. This is the same principle as adjusting focus by moving the eyepiece in a microscope or telescope, helping clinicians achieve appropriate clarity during ophthalmology diagnostics.

The smartphone adapter improves usability by enabling clinicians to record a patient’s retinal image for documentation and review. By adopting a universal smartphone adaptor, the product is designed for use with a wide range of compatible iPhone and Android smartphones. Smartphone applications for iOS and Android are available to help manage retinal images conveniently and efficiently in clinical workflows, supporting better record-keeping and communication within a practice.

Anterior eye imaging

For anterior eye imaging, set the eyepiece to +20D and maintain an approximate distance of 5cm between the eye and the eyecup. Under these conditions, you can capture the eye image, supporting assessment and documentation beyond retinal viewing when required.
